Wonderful narrow gorge in the Lienz Dolomites; really continuous and vertical, with several descents on rope, with a good pace. Not to be missed.

Period: july to september
Length: about 600 m
Alt. difference: 300 meters (970-670)
Rope descents: about 25, higher descent 30 meters
Bolts:

good - 2000

Duration: 30' approach + 4h descent

Access: follow from Lienz the road to Oberdrauburg and, after about 5 km, tunr right towards Lavant. Just in the village turn, heading south-east, follow the road flanking the river and, after about 1 kilometer and after a small group of buildings, take a little non asphalted road, following the touristic indications for the fall (indication Wasserfall - Lavanter Alm). Go on until the bar near a little power station.

Approach: from the parking near the bar go on along the non asphalted road. At the only junction, after about 20 minutes of walk, take the track on the left and go on until a penstock outlet, from where it's easy to reach the river bed.

CAUTION! Pecularities of the upstream basin and a particular microclimate make this gorge extremely dangerous in case of sudden and heavy storms, which can create in a few minutes a big flood wave. A lethal accident took place in 1999.
