Rio Leone

Short and amusing descent among the wonderful Arenzano inland. Never too engaged, this gorge offers anyway a few interesting passages and some dives into beautiful transparent pools.

Vertical drop: 185 meters (645 - 460)

Duration: 1h 30' approach + 2h 30' descent + 1h coming back

Equipment: 1 rope 60 meters long

Access: leave highway A10 at Arenzano, turn right towards Cogoleto - Savona and after about 400 meters take a road on the right leading to the Arenzano Hospital. Go on until a steeply rising up road, Via Pecorara; follow this street until it starts running down. Then, leave it and take an even steeper road on the right. Rise up, for about 1 km, until the village of Agueta, where you'll find an open flat space, near a house on the right.

Approach: from Agueta, take the evident non asphalted road starting on the left of a bent of the asphalt main road (indication for Lagu da Tinna). After about 15' reach a shady space marking the beginning of two paths (one going down and one flat) and of one lightly rising road on the right. Take this non asphalted road and go on until a junction near a 180° bent, then turn left and go on until another junction, after a double curve, and turn left again. After about 45' from Agueta the road becomes a path walking over the interred aqueduct pipe. You're at the end of the RIO LERONE valley (NOT LEONE!); cross a gangway made of iron and concrete, go on for a few meters more and, at about 1h from the start, you'll be at the exit of the canyoning descent, near another gangway. Go on around a little aqueduct building and after 2 or 3 minutes take a steep and meandering path on the right (sign towards Rocca Spaccą) until it reaches, a few meters from the water (descent start), a red "A" marked path.

Re-entry: from the gangway cover back the approach way.
