Val de Piero

Rather beautiful descent made by a long part of walking among white rocks and icy water and a very engaged and beautiful second part, a little too short. Both of the two parts offer an amusing descent on rope.

Access: from Belluno, head towards Feltre and then turn for Agordo onto the national road no. 203, running along the valley of the Cordevole. Go on this road and reach the hotel-restaurant "La Stanga", a few kilometers before the village of La Stanga. It's possible the park the car in the space in front of the hotel (with the agreement of the owners) or, going back for about 200 meters, in a litlle open space on the right, near the bridge over the gorge.

Approach: just behind the hotel starts the path no. 502 for the Val de Piero and the "7° Alpini" shelter. Go on this mule-track rising very steeply and, at the first junction (near a little concrete building), turn right always following the path no. 502 (the path on the left leads to the Val Ru da Molin). Keep on going on this path even after a diversion on the right going down towards the bank; the track overhangs the gorge and in a few points it's belayed with fixed iron ropes. Pass over two affluents on the left going half way up the hill and reach a wood, 700 meters above the sea level, where it's possible to find a grassy track leading down to the river bed. Take this path and reach the river bed near an aqueduct concrete building which marks the beginning of the descent.

Coming back: the gorge ends under the bridge near the parking.
